Lightbulb Thesis: Battle of Cuito Cuanavale

Hi everyone!

I'm a History Honours student at Rhodes University in Grahamstown, and I am currently working on my Honours Thesis which is a documentary on soldiers who fought in the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale.

My supervisor is Professor Gary Baines (who has also done extensive work on the subject) and essentially I am intending to do a 15-30min documentary on South African soldiers who had fought in the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale and their experiences before, during and after the battle.

If my thesis is successful, I eventually intend to contact the History Channel, or Discovery Channel, and turn this into a full documentary series, much like they do with the WWII and Vietnam soldiers. I believe very strongly that our soldiers need their stories told as well, and I want to be the one who does it.

As such, I am currently looking for soldiers who are willing to be interviewed with regards to their experiences in the battle itself and any other insights they are willing to share.

I regularly travel between Grahamstown, Port Alfred, Port Elizabeth , Knysna, George and Oudtshoorn and sometimes Mossel Bay. So, essentially the Western Cape Garden Route and part of the Eastern Cape, although I am willing to travel to other areas in the country if necessary.

I am in the process of procuring the Special Assignment DVD on the subject as well.

If you would be able to put me in touch with anyone who could assist, or if you yourself would be willing to assist, I would be most appreciative.

My number is 082 771 2515 and email address is eriksensa@yahoo.com.

Thanks!
